Piney Orchard ES Celebrates Culture

The Piney Orchard Elementary School PTA offered its families a trip across the world during their recent well-attended and very delicious annual cultural night.

Titled “Celebrating an Evening with the Seven Continents & Silent Auction,” the evening featured international food prepared by more than a dozen local restaurants and entertainment brought in to showcase music, dance, storytelling and native dress from around the world.

A Silent Auction featured a vast array of items donated from POES family and friends, as well as the POES staff.  Each teacher provided an item of opportunity, such as lunch, ice cream or golf for their grade level bidding.

The Silent Auction drew a lot of attention from children and parents alike, many hoping to win the chance to do an activity with their teacher.  This area was especially busy with children bidding and parents keeping a watchful eye on the dollar figure they were committing to!

Fifth grader Emily MacMinn hopes to win the mini golf outing with her teacher.

Showcasing items from the continent of Australia are POES Principal Karen Bailey, event chair Lari Brent Chandler, and Assistant Principal Susan Mosay.  Children could fill their Passport with stamps as they traveled through their evening!
