Local Kids Help the Homeless

The Fellowship Hall of Crofton’s Community United Methodist Church was recently filled with food, toiletries, and quilts, as well as a room full of children learning the value and rewards of community service.
The County Executive initiated Homeless Resource Day as a way to offer short term and long term services and solutions to homeless residents of Anne Arundel County in one central location. Both children and adults will benefit from transportation, medical, housing, and job assistance, as well as personal hygiene, social services, and quality of life resources.
“While these services are commonplace for most county residents, we must not dismiss their importance in helping the less fortunate pursue their basic needs for survival,” said County Executive John R. Leopold. “Anne Arundel County employees, as well as State and local non-profit agencies will be working hard to provide services. However, the success of Homeless Resource Day is ultimately reliant upon volunteers,” he added.
In response to the call, the children busily stuffed bags filled with food and toiletries donations while others made two “ugly quilts” with the help of the CUMC Stitchers.
On behalf of our entire our community, we thank coordinators Carol Streeter and Tammy Taschenberger for providing this valuable opportunity to local children.
