AVFD Recognizes Superior Service 2010

At its annual awards banquet, the Arundel Volunteer Fire Department recognized the following members for their impressive work and dedication throughout the year.
Josephine Cohen Award - Blaine Slocum
Given to the member who most exmplifies the characteristics of the late Ms. Cohen, a dedicated volunteer who served the company for many years as treasurer.
Rookie of the Year - Alex Wolsky
Presented to a first year member who shows the determination of becoming the best volunteer they can be through training and a willingness to advance personally as well as professionally.
Firefighter of Year - Shaun Love
Presented to an individual who has demonstrated consistency and dependability on the fire ground, a willingness to improve their level of training and mentor others, and a reliable asset to the company.
President of the Ladies Auxiliary Carene Housenfluck announces the winner of the James Bryan Housenfluck Memorial Trophy which honors her son, a former member of Squad 7 who was tragically killed in a car accident. The award is presented to a member who has best exemplified a high degree of professionalism, devotion, and service to the AVFD. This year's winner was Shaun Love.
President's Award - Sam Sumpter
Presented in recognition of superior efforts on the job for the AVFD.
Mentor of the Year Award - Chuck Gross
Presented as recognition for his extraordinary dedication to Squad 7 and his many hours of service.
And it is with great appreciation that Suburban Scene publisher Laura Tayman was recognized and named an Honorary Member of the AVFD. It is an honor and privilege to share the wonderful contributions AVFD provides for its community.
